My web page is not to far from completion, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how easy it would be for the police to track me down? Seeing as all the content on there will get me into alot of trouble. BTW I will only be giveing out the URL to the "REAL" members of this forum. ------------------ |

I used to have a website on Xoom, I worked on it constantly it was huge, pictures, LONG descriptions. then some ass wrote me an e-mail telling me that some kid could find my website and blow off a finger I promptly told him to shove it. and the next day my website was gone I wrote several E-mails to xoom which they never responded to I think that as long as you get a "cool" webspace you only have to deal with the assholes that are for internet censorship you have to include an active E-mail when you sign up right? so make a fake account (held by John Smith123) at hotmail saying that you live in california (you have to find the zip codes) when you live in new york. always turn your head away from the camera. all these will make it harder to find you, but nothin makes it impossible. ------------------ |

Take a few pictures of some guy on the street and make a fake name, address and so forth. Put the fake pictures on the web site under personal or whatever. Works all the time to fool the cops. AND don't bother using Xoom your website won't last a week there. None of my sites ever lasted there. Try searching for a better one. Not Geocities either. No Fortunecity either. hehe ------------------ |

Use a library-computer to create the homepage and upload every thing. In this case the big brother can’t trace the IP- number. Make sure every thing is made by this computer e-mail etc. ------------------ "Abusus non tollit usum" |

Personally the library is the last place I would want to be uploading information that might be off color in the eyes of the general public. Some better options are to have a nice fat disclaimer to begin with. Then use the same method of protection that nbk does with the *'s to throw off search engines. Have index.html as something that isn't suspicous and not connected to the rest of the site. I wouldn't bother with javascript password protection or anything like that since its easy to break and wouldn't stop the sysadmin. For uploading you can use proxies, borrowed isp accounts, free isp accounts with bogus info. To product your phone number you want to evade CID and ANI. Your isp probably uses CID so *67 would be efficent but if your extra paranoid using prepaid calling cards to dial in would probably be another security precaution. Hope my response makes me a candidate for the URL ![]() |

If you are really paranoid, you could even steal a cell phone at the subway, bus station, busy market etc... every now and then and use it with a free isp you registered on a library computer. Use a laptop and do this at a park or some public place with little people. |

Unless the videos are off you garrotting some old lady then I doubt it'll get you into that much trouble. I never give out my real adress, they have no reason to know it. I have books on killing and bombs etc on my site, and the FBI arnt on my doorstep (yet). Theirs no reason to be that paranoid. Unless you ISP know your real adress, then the recorded IP will mean nothing. Theres nothing wrong with being a little paranoid by not giving out your real addy, but keeping a mini 14, tac trigger and several 40 round mags by your PC is just a bit too far. ------------------ |

If you are worried... 1) Try to create your entire website before uploading it, you will be completly unknown during its creation. 2) Use some form of file encryption on your computer. Keep all copies of your webpage encrypted on disks, and the disks somewhere away from your computer and property. 3) Try to remove as much reference material as possible for the sites creation. Bomb books may be legal, but they are damning evidence when they raid your house. 4) Never use your own PC for uploads. The best are college campuses. There are numerous unattended PC's in out of the way labs at colleges. 5) Limit your uploadings as much as possible. This is why you wait till your done with the site. The less you upload, the less likely you can be tracked. 6) Use a redirect service like come.to as your main address. Whenever an asshole gets your site canned, you can move without losing your main web address. 7) Choose a last name at random and look it up in an online phonebook ( www.whitepages.com ). Use one of these names, addresses, zip codes to create a false persona for your email, website, etc. Using these security measures may seem extreme, but they are rather simple and easy to conduct. The only real weak link is uploading. Be aware that if you use the same computer, they may have a sting ready. Make your upload quick and irregular. ------------------ [This message has been edited by megalomania (edited June 09, 2000).] [This message has been edited by megalomania (edited June 09, 2000).] |
