A cousin of mine has one of these, it is an extremely thick steel pipe with a large endcap welded on the end very carefully and also a sparkplug welded into the end. All he does is fill the cannon with a mix of about 70% oxygen and 30% acetelene then all he does is connect the sparkplug to a battery and BOOM! the front end is very securely to a bipod which is firmly in the ground. He has to wear earplugs when he shoots this and it is very powerful. I was wondering if anyone else has made one of these before[This message has been edited by green beret (edited May 22, 2000).]

Another of my favorites is containers of oxygen + a fuel of some sort. I make the oxygen by heating sodium chlorate in a 1 inch by 5 inch pipe with a tube coming out of it. To fill a milk jug, I'll use the water displacement method. Then I'll just spray in a bit of ether starter fluid. I've used it in a cannon before, but I made my acetlyene by mixing calcium carbide in water. As it ignites spontainiously with chlorine gas, its is alot of fun. What I used to do was get a bowl, and fill it halfway with a mix of bleach and sani-fluch (sodium hypochlorate) it would give off chlorine gas, I would then drop in some calcium carbide and mix in some liquid soap (to let it form bubbles). A bubble of acetylene would form, rise to the surface, then when the bubble broke, it would ignite with the chlorine creating a small pop and a whisp of smoke. sometimes a bubble of acetylene and chlorine would merge and create an underwater burst. ------------------ Whoa, where my fingers?

When dealing with oxy-acetylene or any fuel/oxidiser gas mix BE CARFUL. Ox/acet mix are comperable to explosives and shoul be treated as such, acetylene is explosive in a 1-75% mixture, and that is just with air also they are static sensitive. As an example once my science teacher set off some hydrogen/ox mix that was in a ballon and it made a loud boom and vaporized some of the ballon (particles and residue not pieces), scaled up or pressurized this is very powerful.------------------ insert witty remark here

A spark plug will not spark if it is just connected to a 12v car battery. It needs to be connected to a much higher voltage, like a cars ignition coil. The best one I have seen was from a model T ford, others will work but the model T was simple and easy to use. ------------------ Whoa, where my fingers?

He means Sodium hypochlorite(solution) + sodium hydrogensufate(granules) = Cl2Mixtures of ethylene and oxygen are tremendously sensitive to static electric shock (simple discharge would initate the whole into an explosion), for anesthetic purposes it was once desired, but is very hazardous in the stated aspect.

You could also use a mixture of 50% Ether and 50% Gasoline for your cannon.
