In order to buy chemicals from fisher scientific you need to be purchasing them for a school or university. (i just got there hard cover catalog) it says that in order to buy chems for a school, the order needs to be on a school letter head. now this would be easy to make on word 97 but does anyone know if they do any checking to see if the school is legit? or do they leave as is? also does anyone know if they ship to Corporations? i was thinking, in order to have access to all the chem suppliers that ship only to schools and businesses, you could set up your own Business with a fake corporate charter so you can take full advantage of the chem suppliers that you know are not fronts for the fbi. i am actually planning on getting a legit corp. charter issued by the state that i live in but i do not know how much hassle that would be. (how much money i would have to pay to get the charter and what i would have to do for taxes) of course this corp. would not conduct any business and would not generate revenue so i would not have to claim anything but i think it still would be a pain in the ass. if anyone has any info pertaning to anything that i said please, PLEASE ( ------------------ [This message has been edited by Ho ju (edited May 18, 2000).] |

well i wouldn't even bother stealing them, i would just reproduce them on word 97 (look at a letter head on a paper sent home to me by the chem department or something). i was just wondering what type of background checking they do. and if i would have to go the extra mile to get a corp. charter (which i want to do anyway...fake or real) i just want to know if they like call to conferm or anything or if they just take it at face value. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Ho ju (edited May 18, 2000).] |

Forget about using fake letterhead since it's real easy for them to check to see if there is a real school. The white pages. If you're using real school letterhead, then the address has to match up with the listing in the phone book, otherwise they'll know you're trying to pull something. All you'd accomplish would be ordering your school some chemicals. Fisher is like Aldrich and Sargent-Welch in being a pain in the ass trying to order from since you have to have all kinds of proof of business. Why bother? There are plenty of places on the net that you can order from that only want your money and could care less about what you're going to do with them. ------------------ Search the archive before you ask. http://members.xoom.com/forumlibrary |

We buy from Fisher in the lab at work, yes they do sell to companies. They require from us an account to be set up, you must provide cooperate banking info and you will get a salesmen who checks on such things. You can falsify the info, but they do check and it is quite illegial to do so. They have lots of liability and such to protect their asses. Fisher has many wonderful things, but they are VERY expensive. I would suggest "Science Kit and Boreal Laboratories" (that is the name of one company). They specialize in some of the same things Fisher does, their catalog is only free to schools though ($5 for the rest of us), and they have a hassle free policy (at least they did several years ago when I last ordered) and most important: The prices are much lower. if your getting chemicals, try Aldritch, the prices are considerably less for some items, and the selection is greater. I have on occasion used a service called SciQuest (sciquest.com) to acquire catalogs. Just about everybody who is anybody that sells stuff to the scientific community has a registered link there. This service provides direct access to get the catalogs of thousands of companies. You enter your data, do a search, and all these companies are listed that will send you their catalog. The best part is its all free, the catalogs are free, and you will get flooded with literature for a couple of years (don't get carried away like I did... I love free catalogs, but not 30 a day for months). ------------------ [This message has been edited by megalomania (edited May 19, 2000).] |
