When making a chlorate cell are there any types of rods (besides carbon and platnum) that you can use?

I have seen lead rods mentioned before, but i dought it'd work ... why mess with carbon'n platnum if something as simple as lead would work...

ps. i trued lead years ago and ended up with the customary black shit floating in salt water

Lead dioxide will work great. Remember though, lead is poisonous. There is a web page that talks all about chlorate and perchlorate production. Tells you how to make lead dioxide, procedures for making chlorate and perchlorate with different salts etc... Its bookmarked on a computer other than this so I cant provide it now.

There's several different webpages on making chlorate with electricity included in the explosives archive. Use it.

This page is another one, seperate from the ones posted in the Explosives section. It details very well the procedure of making lead dioxide. I'll post it within a week.

I tried plating Lead dioxide on to carbon rods. It plated nicely but the plating came of when i used it in a cell. I followed the procedure from that dutch pyrotechnic page.
The stuff you need is quit expensive.
