what would be the simplest way to shape and melt glass ? i realize a lighter is unrealistic, what about the jet tourch lighters? could they get glass hot enough to mold ? what could i mold it with ? i dont wanna spend lots cash investing in the normal glassmakers tools, i know i can do without those. |

A $10 propane torch will work perfect for this. You'll also want a small triangle file for cutting and indenting the glass, and a wood dowel for flaring. Using straight glass tubing you can make connectors for flasks, condenser tubes, coils, etc. You won't be able to make flasks or more complex shapes though without a furnace and equipment. ------------------ |

that and you shouldn't go trying to make beakers and stuff that are going o be heated. it more than likely will break. what do you want to make anyway? ------------------ http://members.xoom.com/Splynncryth |

I've read about people using light bulbs for bongs. what you do is break out the stuff in the back of the bulb, then wash it out and let it dry. then use the torch that you gave a link to, to heat up a spot on the bulb till it's red then blow through the opening of the bulb and the spot that is red will bubble out forming a nipple. youre supposed to break/file off the tip of the nipple and that's where you put you bowl. I tried this using a "pencil torch" it worked for heating up the glass and forming the nipple, but something happened, I put the still hot bulb by a window and it cracked and fell apart form the sudden temperature change. |
