I have made myself a silencer that gives me a substantial noise reduction for my 22. However the click of the bolt is fairly loud. Has anyone ever seen plans for a "bolt lock" that would allow me to shoot single shots, and manually cycle the action?

why do you need it so quiet?
if yer trying to kill someone, then all I will say is... drop something at the moment yuo shoot. ppl will think the noise was the dropping sound...
I'am curious. was design did ya use fer yer silencer?

A spring operated device that slides up the
bolt's path every time the bolt recoils back
, should work, but you will face some changes
in its accuracy, because it's fed and chambered in a different way after you changed it.

Some gunsmithes work on 10/22s' to give it
a slide stop, it's no slide but they call it that way, it only stop the bolt in place after the last shot has been fired, like common semi-auto handguns, to indicate the empty magazine.

ohhhh. I thought you were talking about a ruger mark II..
I dont know why but my 10/22 is really silent without a silencer..
all I can hear is the bolt click and a SMALL crack(sonic crack).
so i feel no need to make a silencer for it.
maybe its the ammo i use...

Well the reason for wanting more sound reduction is simple. Perfection. Its good now, but not as good as it could be. I use the gun at the garage where my friends and i work on our cars, and race cars. Their is a junk yard right next to us, and some rather LARGE rats frequently come into the garage. Shooting them is more fun than the way we used to electrocute them.
I'll post some plans for the Silencer as soon as i have a chance to draw them up.

Damn i know they have modified 10/22's this way. I remember reading that swat teams use silenced, single shot ruger 10/22's to take out street lights when it is to their advantage for it to be dark.
Maybe i should just get another gun (like i need any reason ) and make this one a bolt action 22.

It is impossible to take out a street light with a .22! I have tried, I sat on the curb for 20 minutes shooting a light. it was FILLED with holes, but the light would not go out.

depending on the type of light you're trying to put out if it has it's own pole you can just unscrew the plate at the bottom of the pole and snip the wires. this does not visible damage to the light either. you can also shine a spotlight on the top and will make some go off for ten minutes. if it's not one of those kind wouldn't it be better to use a shotgun? maybe not as quiet i guess.

You couldn't take out a street light with a 22?!!! Dude i have repedely knocked themout with BB guns while i was younger..lol
Also once with my potatoe gun..hehe
The BB gun though (old crossman 760 pump) i used that to blast at least a dozen lights. From different angles too. It was pretty simple when right below the light.. just shoot straight up into the light... it went out every time. I could even hear the bb bouncing around inside until the light broke. I also shot it once from my window.. unly at a level of about 5 feet below the light.. and it still broke.
I lived in an appartment for a while and the SOB would shine right into my window (i hate that) which is why i blasted it so many times.
Can't believe you couldnt knowck them out with a 22.

well he couldn't (i am guessing) because the .22 went right throught he plastic cover and out the other side where as you bb went in thorugh the plastic cover and instead of gong out the other side bounced around. it is much easier to take out a light with a bb then it is a .22. you do not have to be quite asaccurate with a bb

I repeatedly shot a street light with a BB gun but it wasnt powerful enough. It would richochet right off the plastic housing. Could it be that the plastic is thicker here as to deal with winter conditions?

The "plastic" that it is made out of is most likely made up of one of the tougher branches of the polymer strains to deal with the enviroment where they are being used..
It's probably about 1cm thick :/

oh yeah it is really thick. i have tried to break them several times just for fun but it never gives. i have thrown rocks at them and shit like that but nothing happens. of course it has to be thick or little kids would go around shooting them with bb guns for fun (not that any of you are little kids )
