I was told anything you buy from a pyro company that remotely has any explosive or oxidising(sp?) capabilities-(I like rocketry)or even some chems that do not...are all laced with an atomic chemical so the govt can tell--if the chem was used in crime or whatever- where it came from and who it went to ultimately... How true is this for simple one lb units purchased from a pyro supply house and so forth...and also what is the larget rocket propellant-wise I am allowed to use without a license... Reason I ask ...is if my rocket goes off course with it's parachute and someone turns it it and so forth....and it happens to be a little bit larger than permitted (see, I am not into the wimpy estes brand but I am not sure how much larger I can go in size) ..and they investigate and take a sample of the burned propellant (supposedly they can do that) and it comes back that a company sold it to someone in my area...probably me...am I just overly paranoid or not...also, my bud Another question...can jake (my bud) who was convicted of a nonviolent fleony when he was sorry about all the questions but I need ot know...any links would be a great help errr damned popups..i saw the link for the |

Don't close the pop-up, hide it under, it won't show up that much. |

My first ones..when I was younger...were simple black powder I could make easily... NOw I have moved up to a commercial mix that uses ammonium perchlorate, rust, plasticiser and a commercial htpb resin according to a formula from a company ..kicks ass...I am lookng into formulating myown sort-of homemade compound and lookng into a co. called pyrotek who claims to have their own mix --but they wont sell me just the book...have to buy their kit My msot dificult part in my learning curve is

It is true that a lot of chemicals that could possibly be used for a pyro purpose have been laced with traceable tags. The tags are macroscopic(can see them with your naked eye). They are called tags or taggants. They show up when viewed under UV light. They are encoded with information such as brand name, lot number, etc. To check if your rocket fuel is laced with tags, it is VERY simple to determine. Spread some of the fuel out of a piece of paper, turn off all the lights and then view the fuel using only a UV lamp, which you can get fairly cheaply($10 - $15), if your chemical glows in a neon color, it is laced. If it appears normal, it is not laced. ------------------ |

And about your friend, jake or whatever that was convicted of a felony. How much younger was he when he commited it? The fact that is was non-volent doens't matter, ANY felony will disable you from owning a firearm. If he was under the age of 18 when he commited the felony, he can fill out some paper work to have his record sealed or expunged, that will be up to the judge. They will usually seal small felonies, but shit like rape, armed robbery they will most likley refuse. Anyways, If he is under 18, he may be able to get it expunged. But if he was over 18, he is 100% fucked for life. No way can ge ever get a gun. ------------------ |

The government wants taggants, but the explosvies industry has resisted it because taggants have a bad tendancy to change the properties and stability of explosives. That's why they are virtually non-existant in the US. Military explosives may be a different story, but they can afford isotopic taggants that you'd need a Mass Spectrometer to detect. One such taggant is sold by www.isotag.com . Taggants aren't something you need to worry about. ------------------ |

In the U.S. depending on local laws it is ilegal to make and use home made rocket motors. The larges commerical motors you can use without licenses is a "G" My advice is to do a lot of internet and library research on rockets, I have about 30-70 rocketry websites bookmarked that I can send you if you email me at TheFairlanes@Aol.com note most of these are usually opposed to people who know very little about rocketry, chemistry, and physics making their own rocket motors. Where as I'm the last person who will discurrage a person from making motors, you need to know the hazards involved. For a Physics project I made a PVC cased rocket motor with a Phenolic nozzle, the problem was that the nozzle was too small and didn't erode and caused the motor to explode. The explosion put 3-6" holes in a plexiglass blast shield and sent a piece of burning propellant 50' in the air. Please contact me and I will pass on as much knowledge as I can to make sure that your rocketry adventures will not get you mamed or killed. I am eger to help you for the main reason that you don't seem like many people in this forum who only want to hurt scare or kill people. Catch ------------------ |

Although taggents are not necessarily required by law (yet) blasting explosives do have tracing materials will lead investigators to the company, lot number, and eventually you. It is quite possible that the gov’t allows (forces) the voluntary use of taggent materials in pyrotechnic chemicals. Since nobody cares if the performances of amateur rockets are bad, they can get away with it. And if it keeps a lawsuit of the chemical companies back, they will cave in. ------------------ |
