Whoa! you'll need a library to answer this, maybe other people have a link for you, here is basic concept. An atom or molecule accepts certain frequencies of light, you give it a frequency that matches, its electron or some 1So basically you need to give energy to excite the lasant : strobe light, concentrated light, electricity(in gas laser case) 2you need lasant, a pure substance or a special mixture that can improve the lasing. 3You need mirrors around the lasant(makes it better if the light input isn't efficient) 4you definitely need the two mirrors at the opposite end of the lasant chamber (one 100% plated, one 99% plated) |

humm so far all i can say is wow but if i take a part one of those hand held laser could i get a point of view. or would it be so compact that i could not understand what is going on. where would i get all this stuff so i can make one of these laser. also how big could i make the laser beam. thanks for your help on this topic |

Check out www.repairfaq.org. There are plans for some powerful (30w+) CO2 lasers, but you'll need to be very good at making things, be very patient and have access to the right equipment if you actually try and build one. A laser's not just some kind of special torch you know! cheers, Juice |

So what kind of laser do you want? The kind that points a dot on things or the one that shoots a hole on things? I can give you a site, it sells bunches of plans for special weaponry, new age stuff, and alternative propulsion shit, but I never bought any of those so I can't guarantee their quality, some are already built, expensive like hell. "Future Horizons" http://www.futurehorizons.net/energy/energy.htm If you wanna see how a laser works, you can try library, there will always be something Some laser pointers are actually a diode plus |

You really need to be careful about palces like futurehorizons and information unlimited etc... 99% of the time they are trying to screw you for your money by selling you something thats not such a "groundbreaking new technology". This is proved with the hoverboard being sold by future horizons, all it is, is a hovercraft with a small gas motor. Also stay away from anything that advertises "free energy". ------------------ |

listen to VeHeMT he knows what hes talking about, alot of those company's sell you shit that sucks and breaks easily, just be carefull with your money |

I was burnt by information unlimited for $40 years ago. I thought I was getting a laser, they sent PVC tubes with a LED inside. And they wouldn't do a refund either. Fuck them. ------------------ |

I remembered the future horizon sells plans for a laser pistol, the description said it uses a ruby rod(a special color glass rod) , but you should only buy the plan or just look things up in a library. The hoverboard is just a chair with a board and propeller blowing air to the ground. |

Actually, encylopedias are a very, very good source for information on Lasers In one particular encylopedia I was reading, it had information on how nearly all the known types of lasers were constructed, what they used, and most importantly, the theory behind it all. My advice: look it up in about 3 encylopedias and you should have all the information about lasers you'll ever need. |

when you talk about a laser gun (pistol) are you talking about one that would puncture solid structures or one that is just like a laser pointer but works with the click of the trigger? ------------------ |
|
HMTD Factory Frequent Poster |
Well, it uses glass ruby rod and flash light tube, definitely the one that punctures. |

The ruby rod laser will puncture metal, like a razor blade or soda can. Not anything useful. The lasers capable of cutting plate steel are huge machines with cooling systems and huge power requirements. But it could blind a person. ------------------ |

Yeah, the kind that punctures is often a pulse laser, I've seen on TV, a clean hole on a phone book straight through(a medical surgery laser, it has pulse and continuous modes.) The flash light I said should be called flash |

Dont forget the large storage capacitors necessary. Kinda like an overgrown monster camera flash circuit with large flash tubes next to a ruby rod. These things make a lot of heat and need to be cooled inbetween shots. ------------------ |
