If you made a .22 (or whatever) caseless round would it be posable to make an smg with a electric punch or something electric to act as a firing pin. No hammer or case to mess about with so no tricky gas parts. Could this work? Bandit |

You probably never heard of it, but a weapon called the "Gyrojet" had the probable solution to this. It had a fixed firing pin with a hammer that would whack the shell on the nose and force it back against the pin. The shell (actually a small rocket) would then go down the barrel, forcing the hammer back down, recocking it for the next shot. This is probably the easiest full-auto mechanism to make. The only problem would be what happens to the primer after the propellant burns. Unless you can reliably eject the primers, they would build up inside the gun and cause a malfunction within a few shots. Perhaps you could use an impact sensitive pellet of primer compound that's cast into the propellant. Everything would then be consumed on burning. ------------------ |
