I have heard much regarding the friction/shock sensitivity of AP. Well, I have made some batches of the stuff, and I have encountered no problems. Why is this?I use 400 ml of 3% h2o2, then 150 ml of 100% acetone, then 50 ml of HCl (28%). I stir for a bit, then leave outside in the cold. When it comes time to filter it, I wash it with approx 600-900 ml of distilled water. After it dried, I put it in a 35mm film container. I threw it against the ground as hard as I could, and nothing. I also took a pinch and put it in some paper. I then hit it with a crowbar. Nothing. I know it works, because I lit a little dab with a lighter. Poof! Now, don't get me wrong... I'm not complaining, heavens no. I just wondered why is it so well behaved? Thanks.

Nitelife you are mad! don't hit AP ever! you will end up with the crowbar in your head! I think you are very lucky that it did not go off, even a pinch can fuck you up. It may not have gone off because it was not dry or something. And about it being friction/shock sensitiv compair AP with somthing like black powder or some other explosive and then you can understand why AP is said to be friction/shock sensitiv.**MATT**

No, I am 100% sure it was dry. It was a fine powder. I know this because I took it to work and placed it near a hot air source. Don't worry. I was only abusing miniscule amounts at a time.

You have to make sure the shock you gave it is totally received, now take two pieces of metal plates(coins would be good), sandwich it with a layer of AP powder, use tape to fix the two coins in position tightly, not really need to wrap all up just keep powder in them, now drop or throw the metal disk at something far and "hard". See it happen.I once placed a toy cap on a rod and used a plier to bang it, it didn't go off, but I placed the same cap into a toy gun it go off again, that's the difference.

You use hot air to dry it.The AP decompuse.I use cold air for 3days 15 Celcius room temperature and it works great.
