DeathShadow Frequent Poster	posted January 12, 2000 09:49 PM Hi,I'm attempting to make acetone peroxide , i mixed 250ml peroxide(3%),150ml acetone (100%), and 50ml sulfuric acid (93%) when i added the sulfuric acid to the mixture of acetone/peroxide it bubbled and made a gurggling sound then the beaker got warm, is that normal?
nbk2000 Moderator	posted January 12, 2000 09:52 PM Anytime you add concentrated sulfuric acid to water (peroxide solution) you're going to generate heat. You want to keep you solution below 10' C. And keep it between 5'C and 10'C for best results. Ice bath. It took several days and I got little snow flake crystals. There wasn't much because I only had about 1" of liquid. And when harvested, I lost all the crystals because they stuck to the filter
m3nth Frequent Poster	posted January 16, 2000 02:38 AM using 3%h202, 100%acetone and 38%hcl in an 8:3:1 ratio you should be able to leave it in the fridge for three days and get almost exactly a quarter yield when the powder is not condensed. say you have a cup that is your unit of measurement. after the crystals are filtered, dumping them in the cup and shaking them (they are loose not packed down) gives you almost exactly a quarter of your measurement cup full of crystals. if you get a lot less then this you are doing something wrong--anyone get better results than this by any chance? if a fine layer of crystals stick to the filter dry it and scrape/beat them off with a pocket knife once it is completely dried. l8r... ~m3nth~
