Poor Man's Butane Time Bomb: This is very crude, and as far as bombs go, its a no brainer. But it makes for a hell of an explosion which will burn a house to the ground and possibly injure anyone in the room. After you read what it is and how it works stop and think about how easy and devistating this simplistic concept is. All you need for this delayed time bomb is a plastic butane lighter (or perhaps multiple lighters). But one is much easier to conceal. All the terrorist does is place the plastic butane lighter in the victims toaster. When the lever is depressed by the victim the countdown to detonation begins. Its usually less than 30 seconds before the lighter and toaster explode in a fire ball. This will light the kitchen on fire. The only time multiple lighters would be used is with one of those timers you plug into the wall to turn on your lights when your not home. The toaster is plugged into this device, the lever on the toaster is pressed down, and multiple lighters are put into the toaster. You can usually set these timers for anywhere from 1 minute to 23 hours and 59 minutes. These timers have a lot possibiity in bomb and arson work. For informational purposes only.

I do not believe a fireball from a simple butane gas explosion will ignite something like wood. The fire is simply too brief. It would be very startling though, and would call for a fairly dangerous prank hehee. But that idea is a pretty good ( and interesting ) method of igniting *something*. Also what ignites the butane? does the flint wheel assembly do so when the initial burst happens by moving it ? |

The red hot heating elements in the toaster melt through the plastic lighter, and instantly ignite the butane which blows apart the toaster and causes a fireball. I have tested this device in a field and it does cause a fireball. Welders have been known to accidentally ignite these plastic lighters with a tiny spark from the metal they are welding--some guys have even died. OSHA is full of work related stories of injuries from butane lighters. Most of them are funnier than hell--just outright bonehead mistakes that any idiot should have see comming. Bottom line though, those plastic butane lighters are mini-bombs just waiting to go off. I have designed a lot of different bombs based on them. One for instance involves dipping the lighter in glue then rolling it in match heads. Add a fuse running from the match heads to the flint wheel on the lighter. Lay on a piece of wax paper to dry. Light lighter to ignite fuse and throw. BANG! If you wanted an even deadlier bomb roll the thing in glue again then in BB's. Makes for a nice anti-personall bomb.

I am well aware of the explosion hazards of plastic butane lighters. Ok i understand that this will work but i am just trying to better understand every aspect of it. Is the element so hot that it ignites the gas? Because usually it will simply make the gas warmer. My best guess is that the mechanical energy created from the bursting of the lighter causes the wheel to ignite or something similar or that the plastic is ignited, but that doesnt seem to work very well because the gas rushing out will nearly freeze something in its way due to the low boiling temp. So ive still got no solid answer hehe. I im not doubting in anyway that it wont work, but i just wish to understand more. ( curiosity ) |

I am almost positive that the heat from the toaster will melt the plastic and light the butane. When the butane rushes out it will not freeze anything in any way. I have slammed lighters on the ground and the resulting crack lets out the air and nothing is frozen. (yes the crack is sometimes small, and the gas is not released all at once.) I think that is a damn good idea killer. If you do this in a toaster that is placed next to a stove with a hood you can concele a pipe bomb in the hood with a long fuse. When the person makes toast in the morning the butane will light and the fire ball will light the fuse...and you know the rest. BOOOOOOOOM!!!!!! ------------------ |

I never meant that anything would literally freeze, but what i did mean was that it wouldnt be so instantaneous if the plastic had to ignite to ignite the butane gas, due to the cooling effect of the rushing, evaporating gas. Ohwell, im just wondering what exactly ignites the butane gas. Thats all, and i should have better explained what i meant about the freezing. |

As best as I can understand, the heating element ignites the butane fumes. Frozen or not, they are still flammable. I'm no engineer so I won't theorize beyond that. I think you are thinking to hard about this. All I know is that it does work. killer_elite@my-Deja.com |

How loud are thos lighters diped in glue and matches? -pois |

Another good way to set off a lighter like this is to get a lighter with an adjustable flame. Set it on the highest flame and tip it upside down. (should be done on a calm day with very little to no wind)the flame will melt the plastic near the top and the gas that rushes out will be lit. and BOOOOM! This is an easier way and smaller way to set one of these things off. Good for school or on the street. ------------------ |

Quite loud, but this can vary in the way the matches attack the lighter. The fireball is impressive, especially in a confined space. I did the toaster bomb in a field once. I ran a long extension cord to it and covered it with a big cardboard box. Very nice display. It threw the breaker in my house though. killer_elite@myDeja.com |

What do you mean quite loud? More then a m-80? -pois |

a good way to make a loud butane lighter bomb(and an impressive fireball ) is to get one of those budwiser lighters that are shaped like a bottle of beer use it half way(I dont know how far you have to use it, my flint broke when it was still half full)now throw it against the ground really hard so the wheel hits the ground, the lighter wil bust and the wheel will spark againt the asphault then a bang and a fireball. the thing is to use the beer lighters the cases are stronger and louder |

I knew about thos but i want to also know how loud the ones killer_elite was talking about.A example of the one i would make the lighter would be diped into glue. Then it would be dumped into a jar of match heads so it is totaly coated i don't know if that helped any. -pois |

Would the match heads A) light when coated in glue and B) be hot enough to burn through the plastic? I would say they would nto work well in glue. I have tried something that required matches to be glued and it did nto work well. ------------------ |

You probably used too much glue. You shouldnt need that much glue and it will depend on what kind of glue u are going to use. Like water based or solvent based etc.. I would use a solvent based glue since it will dry faster and it wont get the match heads all soggy like water because it will dry off faster. |

Alright that might work. What i was trying to do was glue match heads together to try and make a kinda fuse. ------------------ |

Butane lighters are not all they are cracked up to be. They only make small brief fireballs incapable of igniting anything other than highly flammable substances. Butane is not an explosive and can only be used like one (ie in shrapnel bombs) when mixed with oxygen and/or heavily confined then heated until the container is ripped apart. Any other use is not worth it. ------------------ |

yeah but this might work. Put a few lighter inside a pipe with threaded ends. Screw on the ends (with the lighters inside) and throw in a fire... ------------------ |

You could use a kind of flamable glue... like the kind from plastic models. Also a lot of wood glues actually contain wood fibers, which are flamable too. So if you use some different types of glue then you don't have to worry about it putting matches out unless of course you completely cover matches so they get no oxygen, in which case the glue might burn down to them anyway. You could also include rust in some of these designs as rust contains oxygen. In theory, if you included enough rust powder and mixed it with other explosives or flamable materials, you could build an underwater bomb... the fire could use the oxygen from the rust. I don't know if this would work, but it's probably worth a shot... |

I once made a match head bomb, I broke off a lot of match heads, then I coated with glue and put them in a mold made of paper that is the same diam. as my pipe. they were 1 inch thick, the pipe was 14 inches, I made about 6 of these. then what I did was cap the end of the pipe. poured in an inch of match heads(not glued). then i poke holes in all of the glue matches. I put a glue match, then match heads, then a glue match etcetera. I had 2 inches left. I put the fuse through the holes and then I packed wet black powder(50/50 isopropyl alcohol(to keep KNO3 crystallized) and water and slighty dampened the BP)around the fuse. I CAREFULLY put the top on(not much danger as plastic pvc does not create very hard friction). I lit it and the black powder went off bringing with it the match head(unglued) then the glue coated ones ignited it was very "KeWl". I tried it again and it didnt work. I didnt glue the cap on the pipe and it shot off like a cannon. then match heads went off and shot a glue match, but it was ignited, and very cool. it did 6 of these cannon shots, and was cool. then I tried it again and it blew up, very un predictable, might not work, I used a very flammable glue solution. I used some potassium perchlorate and aluminum powder mixed with the glue(Goop(R) and rubber cement mixed 50/50). and one thing I forgot to mention is I coated the glue things with finely powdered match heads. dont do this it is probably going to explode if you did it wrong, because I hear matches are made of KCLO3. and the sulfur in the black powder might ignite it. be careful. this was for info. purposes only ------------------ |

You can use strawberry Pop-Tarts for arson using the toaster. Go to "www.50megs.com/nbk2000/crimes/poptarttorches.html". I've even included a novel way of using them for what could be undetectable murder. Have fun. If you like my site pass it on to a friend, I'm adding content as quick as possible. I also have ragners big book of homemade weapons scanned in. I have the mortar article online in the "heavy weapons" section. |

I have seen butane refills for lighters that could fit into a toaster. Look for the long, cylindrical kind. That would probably be even better, because the contents are under pressure. Or, speaking of kitchen destruction, if you really wanted to do some damage, find the ovens gas line. Or you could just put some aerosal cans inside of the mircowave. Ever see batman two? ------------------ |
