Gun Type Hand Held Flamethrower:

The strange name will make sense in a minute. This is from the book MAGICIAN'S ARSENAL. I've built several of these and they are bitch'in! To hell with buying a real gun when you have this thing in your arsenal.

You need two simple things from the auto supply store, like Checker or Auto Zone. And oe iem from the grocery store. First you need a can of starting fluid. Get the stuff in the red can--it has the highest ether content. Lots of other uses, too.

The other thing you need from the auto supply store is one of those plastic grips that fit over a can. It looks like a plastic pistol without a barrel. You will be slipping this over the can of ether. Then when you pull the trigger the ether sprays out that little plastic tube on the nozzle--it looks like a thin straw or coffee stirrer.

The thing you need from the grocery store is one of those plastic bar-b-que ignitors with a Bic lighter in one end and a trigger you pull to make a flame at the other end.

With the gun mechanism firmly on the can of ether you have to figure out a way to affix the bar-b-que ignitor underneath or on the side of the whole set up. In the book MAGICIANS ARSENAL he has it underneath. But these arn't all made the same so you have to play with it.

What you ultimately want to do is be able to pull both triggers at once, which releases a stream of highly flammable startig fluid, which is ignited by the flame from the bar-b-que ignitor. This thing shoots a huge flame and cooks anything in its path.

On one of these flamethrowers I built I substituted the bar-b-que ignitor for a lighter wich on a wire I rigged under the plasstic straw. I soaked the wick in startig fluid and it stayed lit.

I also slipped a thin metal tube over the plastic straw that was a little longer that it was. This prevented the straw from melting during usage.
