How far will your rocket launcher go that you have on your website? Also what is the destructive power of it? I'm just wondering because I have a homemade rocket launcher that will go 300 yards and is armed with 6oz shaped charge warheads with the explosive ANNM.

Sorry for the late reply - I just got back from a two week trip to Latvia, Sweden and Denmark.

Anyway, I made the rocket launcher, when I was about twelve years old. It launches a simple estes-powered rocket and flew about the same distance as a normal model rocket would. I am not sure of the exact distance.

The destructive power of the warhead is just about whatever I put on it. Basically whatever the weight the rocket can withstand, can be the weight of the explosive used. The possibilities are vast and a wide variety of explosives could be used.

You rocket seems very interesting. Tell me more information if you can.

I am currently working on a ammonium nitrate composite rocket motor, that will be used to power a rocket with expanding fins. The rocket motors give about 100 pounds of thrust and in recent tests, can reach altitudes over 30,00 ft (5 miles).

More info to come...

Hehe i was just reading about the kit you can order from pyrotek it was a kit or a book or somthing like that. That shows you how to make the ammonium nitrate motors the exact descripton you described if you ordered the book or what ever from them tell me how it is.

The tube of my rocket launcher is 3 feet long and and has a 9.6 battery pack under the tube. The firing mechanism is a light switch with a series circuit which is connected to two wires with alligator clips at the end. The rocket consist of a shaped charge warhead that is designed to explode on impact. It does this by a door bell switch that is mounted on the front of the warhead and with the help of two nine volt batteries in the warhead wired in a series curcuit(yes, this is very complicated). Once the door bell is press in by the target it connects the series curcuit which ignites a homemade electric blasting cap and then the main charge. The rocket motor is a MT-10 which produces 10 pounds of thrust. I got the design of the motor out of a manual that I ordered from pyrotech. I found that this warhead can easly penetrate more than 1/2 inches of steel. It probably would go through much more but, that was the thickest piece of steel around the house.

The motors I am talking about are also from the pyrotec.org magazine. They are the M-100 rocket motor.

Saiyan Knight, your launcher seems very interesting. I totally understand the rocket - seems pretty straightforward. However, I was wondering if you could give me some more information on the launcher tube.

Are the fins collapsible?

I am currently using expanding fins. They have four fins, which expand to 2-3/4 inch diameter. The closed position is 1 inch. You may have seen it in the pyrotec magazine as well.

The launcher tube is made from ordinary galvinized steel pipe which is open at both ends. Two inches away from the muzzle, there is a flash hider which is two three inch cuts on both sides to reduce the flash of the motor coming out the barrel. It also has a elevation sight on it(similar to one on a bow&arrow). And the rocket fins are collapsable. On the motor are four little springs connected to the fins, which are on a joint so they can move up and down. Once you pull back the fin to get the rocket into the tube the springs expand. Once the rocket comes out of the tube, the springs contract, pulling the fins in their proper position.

Sounds pretty cool. Do you have any pictures of this rocket/launcher.

If you go to pyrotek.org, you can request a magazine.
