I did the method of distilling nitric acid from sulfuric and KNO3 with the two bottles taped to each other.

But... my nitric acid is greenish yellow....

Yes, the fumes were redish, but when it condensed in the other bottle it was a greenish liquid.
I put it on a penny and it started bubbling and made alot of NO2 and a geen-blue liquid was left. I assume it is some sort of nitric acid but I don't know why its green. Any ideas?

The acid can take on a yellowish tinge with impurities presant, probably from not having an all glass set up. You didnt add the copper to all the acid did ya?

No, I just used copper to test and see if it was nitric acid....
I put a couple drops on a penny and it bubbled and made NO2.

I don't know if this is right. But my chemistry book say that con. nitric acid is very light sensitive. And when the air is wet and came in contact with the acid, the acid turns yellow brown. Go and try the trick with the urea and the dry air, perhaps this help. I hope this is right and can help you a bit.
