This is one of my nastier creations. It is placed around the neck of a hostage at gun-point. With the necklace in place the terrorist can put away his firearm yet be in complete control of the situation. Here we go...

The Devil's Necklace requires a few common items available in any neighborhood:

-One 12 Gauge Shotgun Shell

-One Nichrome Model Rocket Ignior (Hobby Shop)

-One Push Button Switch (Radio Shack) or a Dead Man's Switch--discussed under another post in this group.

-8 Feet of Insulated Bell Wire (Radio Shack)

-9 Volt Batteries

-12 Inch Plastic Wire Tie (Available from hardware stores. Also used by cops to tie up prisoners when they are out of handcuffs. Once this tie is on it cannot be removed--it as to be cut off).

-Misc. Tools, Electrical tape, Soldering Iron

Construction:

A hole is poked in the side of the shotgun shell at the level where the gun powder is located--usually right even with, or directly above where the brass meets the plastic. The flammable tip of the model rocket ignitor is pushed into this hole about a half an inch, so it rests directly in the gun powder. Wires must not touch each other or the brass casing. Position of this wire is taped or glued in place. Insulated wire leads are connected to the bare ends of the model rocket ignitor. This connection is then taped tightly to the shell so nothing comes loose.

Next the shotgun shell is tightly taped in the center of the long plastic tie. It is taped perpendicular, not lengthwise, to the tie.

The final connections are to the batteries and switch, thus making a complete circuit. If a Dead Man's Switch is used the jaws of the clothspin are kept separated by an insulated divider (piece of cardboard) until the device is brought into play.

With the hostage taken at gun-point by the terrorist, the device is wrapped around the victims neck and zipped closed. The shotgun shell is positioned directly in front of the victims throat, pointing upward under his jaw. The wire leads are released thus giving the terrorist a little room to move about and relax. He always keeps the switch in is hand.

Important Note:

If the terrorist uses a regular push button switch, such as a Joy Stick, it is usually taped and bound firmly to his hand so he can't be rushed by the authorities.

If a Dead Man's Switch is used, refer to the previous post discussing that application.

It is obvious how this device is used, but for sake of completeness I will elaborate: If something goes awry, such as demands not being met, this is the sequence of events in the firing train:

1) Terrorist trips the switch in his hand and throws the electrical current to the model rocket ignitor.

2) Model Rocket Ignitor flares up and detonated the gun powder in the shotgun shell.

3) Shotgun shell fires its full blast at point blank range and blows hostages head off. The effect is exactly the same as a regular shotgun were used.

The authorities always assume the worst is over at this point and rush in to arrest or kill the terrorist. A nice 55-gallon drum of ANFO in the attic, detonated via radio-control seems to fit the bill here.

As with all my posts, this is a complete work of fiction and could never happen...could it? I claim copyright on this post.
