Two contact points are needed on the chair for the electrical hook-ups: One for the head, and one for the ankle. A metal salad bowl roughly the size of the human head is used for the skull-cap contact. Two leather dog collars, one on either side of the bowl are affixed to it and act as a chin strap.

The ankle contact is made of 3 or 4 inch galvanized plumbing pipe. A kind of bracelet is made by cutting the pipe in half and then affixing heavy metal hinges to one side and a locking mechanism (padlock assembly) to the other.

Both the skull-cap and the ankle bracelet are bolted to the chair. To the rest of the chair is affixed heavy leather dog collars to keep the condemned person in place during the execution.

Arc Welders come under many different brand names. Almost all of them are portable. The amperage is what kills the condemed person. One amp can do it. The Arc Welders I examined during research for this post are capable of delivering 85 to 130 amps!!! The body may very well explode.

Recently in Texas they strapped a 360 lb. guy into their electric chair and what ensued was a total catastrophe. It took 15 minutes to electrocute him and blood shot out his nose.

In the early days of electrocution it wasn't uncommon to actually cook the person and/or light the on fire during the execution.
