I know this doesnt have to do with explosives or weapons, but... how do you make alcohol. I'am sure i could rig up some kind of distilation. I want the sugar method. i know you got to mix the sugar water and yeast, but what ratio's and do i keep the jar sealed or not? I want a detailed procedure. I have a little moonshine that a friend gave me. it is discusting, but it is a very little bit, if I could make a larger batch than I could maybe add some flavor. then i could make an illegal booze operation any help would be appreciated ------------------ |

Go to http://partyman.se/Engelsk/Turbo/turboyeast.htm for basic info on fermenting. The one thing is doesn't mention is to boil your sugar water first before adding the yeast. The boiling is to kill all the other germs that could also multiply in your mash. If you take a 2-liter bottle and fill it half full of saturated sugar water, after 3 days of fermenting, the solution will contain about 150 ml of alcohol (15%). You only fill the bottle half-way because when yeast ferments, it foams up. Plug the mouth of the bottle with a cotton plug. This allows the excess CO2 gas to escape and keeps out the germs. The mash will be protected from oxygen since CO2 is heavier than air and will sink to the bottom of the bottle. Don't cap it airtight because the CO2 will build up and rupture the container. Hope this helps you out. By the way, alcohol you make at home is best used for chemistry purposes. If your too young to buy alcohol, you shouldn't waste it on drinking. And if your old enough why drink home-made crap when you can buy the good stuff? ------------------ |

what "chemistry purposes" would I use it for? I just plan on making moonshine that tastes like the discusting shit my friend gave me, I'am sure it tastes right but I just want to see if i can make someting that nasty. I have a book that explains the process.it is ragnar action encyclopedia, etc, etc, volume 1 it explains making it on a 25 gallon bases. I want to make it in small scale, like a cup or three at a time

If you just want to make some to drink, use a gallon milk jug or such. You don't have to use a lot of yeast. One packet will work 'cause the yeast will muliply. You could drink the mash straight, but the people I've seen drink pruno (same shit) always got the runs and gas like you wouldn't believe! You can use distilled alcohol as a solvent, or chlorinate it to make chloral hydrate. If you want to make fulminate make sure the alchohol is distilled to a high concentration (90+ %). ------------------ |

an easy way to make alcohol is to take a 2 litre bottle and fill it with orange juice. Take the cap and poke a hole in to it. Run a tube from this hole (make sure the hole is as air tight as possible to prevent o2 from getting in)and put the tube in another bottle filled with water. pour in a packet of yeast inside the bottle with oj, screw on the cap and let this sit for a week. then drink or distill. Now when you distill a mash buy boiling it, does the excess water get boiled off or do you boil off the alcohol and collect that? ------------------ |

Alcohol will readily evaporate much sooner then water ( alcohol boils at something like -45 im not sure, cant remember) so you dont need to heat the mash up so warm that the water starts evaporating. Just enough to get the alcohol out of there conveniently. |

While this sounds good fun (I think I might just try this myself!), be careful. Don't drink it unless you know someone who can test it to make sure it's safe to drink, as it can do you some serious damage (eg blindness) if all has not gone to plan. Most people who brew their own strong liquer (legally or illegally) send off a sample to a lab for testing. This is something to look into for chem purposes as someone said, but why bother drinking it? Just buy some cheap shit, even that will taste better than hurriedly made home-brew! If you're too young, get a fake id or get someone else to get it for you. ------------------ |

yeah i am not sure what th temp is but if you distill a mash at a certain temp and drink it it is like drinking poison. You have to keep it at a constent temp or you could die. Any one know what it is. i have read it some where vefore but i forget. i do nto even boil mine. i just ferment the oj and drink that. it is like 2 times as strong as beer (the way i make it.) another way to get the alcohol is to freeze the water and pour off the alcohol. this is not deadly and it is easy. ------------------ |

The reason people get sick from home-brewed alchol is because of contamination of the mash with molds and funguses that convert the sugar into things like butanol. That's why you have to sterilize everything first. Now, I've known people who've made pruno from OJ. It'll work, but then they often had bloating and diarrhea afterwards. So just distill your mash, and if you can, filter the distillate through activated charcoal. That will remove the butanol. ------------------ |

I just made some home made shit out of OJ and yeast and it been sitting for a week with a tube running fromt he cap into another bottle of water but when i took off the cap of the booz it smells like shit. Is this normal ive never made it home brewed before. -Poison |

did the water have alot of bubbles coming out of it during the middle of the cycle? Was the hole in teh cap that you poked to hold the tube leaking co2? cause if not than it is ok. the worst that can happen if you drink it is it will taste bad. drink a little of it and see how it is. one of my friends did this and got drunk like every day. ------------------ |

you would drink the oj. and the other container filed with water acts like a lock so the co2 can escape but no o2 can get in. during this proccess ALOT of co2 is produced and if you can not get rid of it, it can become a pain in the ass. ------------------ |
