Is the cyanide ion -CN ? ------------------ |

Yes it is. HCN is hydrogen cyanide so lose the H and you have the CN. Although the cyanide molecule can't exist freely, it must be attached to something. ------------------ |

like KCN potassium cyanide ------------------ |

Any ways you know to synthesise it? ------------------ |

I would have thought that a solution of H+ and CN- in water could exist , so therefore the CN- ion can exist alone. If I am right in thinking this then adding a base or metal or whatever would result in the forming of the appropriate cyanide: here I will use potassium oxide as an example K2O + 2 H+ CN- ---> 2KCN + H2O Does anyone know how each cyanide substance is different? ------------------ |

I have an article on my website about how to make cyanide. Cyanide naturally occurs inside the pits of bitter almonds, peaches, and other fruits. You can concentrate it from that. ------------------ |

One other thing, im not an expert but it is my understanding that KCN, potussium cyanide is a salt form, and HCN, is a gas. KCN, cyanide salts can be transformed into a gas when they are mixed with a strong acid such as sulefic acid. So scrap the shit out of 40 peach pits, then pour some sulferic acid over it and instantly HCN gas will be manufactured. This is how prisons kill people in the gas chamber, they have a grate in the floor where a container of KCN is kept, then once the doors are sealed sulferic acid is poured on the KCN, and HCN is made which seeps upward into the gas chamber. ------------------ |

It's spelled "sulfuric". By the way, your info on peach seeds containing cyanide is true, but incorrect. The seeds contain minute amounts of cyanide. Many other common foods contain cyanide (see www.deanie.demon.co.uk/lhon/cyanide.html ). Where you can get realistically get cyanide is the photo supply store. It's not cyanide but ferricyanide. It's used for developing and is made by kodak. You take the ferricyanide and mix it with sodium carbonate (pool pH adjuster) in a ratio of (Ithink) 5 parts CN-3 NaCO3. The ratio may be wrong, but it is in one of the Kurt Saxons books (great grandads book of chemistry). You melt the 2 together till the iron in the cyanide is freed and falls to the bottom. Pour off the clear melt on the top and let it cool. That's almost pure cyanide. But you can also use the ferricyanide straight to poison someone since it also reacts with acid (stomach) to form HCN. Which is what kills the victim anyways. ------------------ |
